Florence from Orentano
Florence is the big one: Brunelleschi's dome, the Uffizi, Michelangelo's David, Ponte Vecchio — the highest concentration of Renaissance art on the planet, about an hour from your quiet village base.
As a day trip it rewards planning: book the Uffizi and the Accademia in advance, pick one big museum per visit, and leave time to simply cross the Arno and get lost in the Oltrarno's workshops. Coming home to a village dinner afterwards is the part you'll be smug about.
Don't miss
- The Duomo & Brunelleschi's dome — Climb it (book ahead) or admire it from the Campanile — either way, it's astonishing.
- The Uffizi — Botticelli, Leonardo, Raphael — reserve a timed slot, always.
- Ponte Vecchio & the Oltrarno — Cross the old bridge and stay on the far bank: artisans, San Frediano, and Piazzale Michelangelo for the classic view.
Getting there
About an hour by car via the FI-PI-LI or A11 — but for Florence the train is often smarter: drive to Altopascio or San Miniato–Fucecchio (~10–15 min) and ride straight into Santa Maria Novella, no city parking involved.
