Pisa from Orentano
~40 min by car Directions from Orentano
Pisa needs no introduction: the Leaning Tower, the Cathedral and the Baptistery standing on the improbably green lawn of Piazza dei Miracoli make one of the most recognisable places on earth.
The trick is to give it more than the tower selfie. Walk ten minutes south and you are in the real city — the Borgo Stretto arcades, the market in Piazza delle Vettovaglie, and the lungarni, the grand riverfront that glows at sunset.
Don't miss
- Piazza dei Miracoli — Tower, Duomo and Baptistery in one glance. Book the tower climb ahead in high season.
- The lungarni — Pisa's riverfront palaces — best at golden hour, and where the locals actually are.
- Borgo Stretto & the market — Arcaded streets and Piazza delle Vettovaglie for an aperitivo among students.
Getting there
About 40 minutes by car from Orentano. By train, the San Miniato–Fucecchio station (~15 min drive) puts you on the Florence–Pisa line straight to Pisa Centrale.
Back in the village by evening: see where to eat and what’s on tonight, or browse places to stay if Orentano isn’t your base yet.
