The Tuscan coast from Orentano
When the summer heat settles on the plain, the village does what Tuscans do: drives to the sea. The nearest sand is about 45 minutes away, and you can choose your style of coast.
North is Viareggio and the Versilia — the classic Italian seaside of striped umbrellas, Liberty-style seafront cafés and a long evening passeggiata. South-west is Tirrenia and Marina di Pisa, quieter and closer to the pinewoods. Everywhere, expect both stabilimenti (paid beach clubs with loungers) and stretches of free beach.

Getting there
About 45 minutes by car to Viareggio (via the A11) or to Tirrenia (via Pisa). In summer, go early or go late — the lunchtime beach traffic is real.
