Vinci is a small hill town on the slopes of Montalbano, and the reason to go fits in one name: Leonardo, born here in 1452 among these olive groves.
The town wears it lightly — a castle with a museum of Leonardo's machines, quiet lanes, and a walk (or short drive) up to Anchiano, the stone farmhouse traditionally held to be his birthplace, surrounded by the same terraced olives he sketched.

Getting there
About 35 minutes by car from Orentano through Fucecchio and Cerreto Guidi. No useful train — this one is a driving trip.
